FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE – Spirit’s Songs & Sauces – September 25, 2020

Spirit Songs & Sauces – On Stage and Online. September 25 featuring Peter Halley, Shelley Neville, John Williams, Cat Bowring and Joe Tucker.

We’re delighted to be back home at the Masonic Theatre hosting LIVE and online! This is an oversized dinner party of great friends, colorful and talented hosts, exceptional musical guests and an extraordinary meal. This is an adventure in songs, sauces (and a bit of sauce for sure), and a whole lot of laughs. Since April we have been travelling around the world choosing location themed cuisine and musical culture for entertainment. Our remarkable hosts are award-winning comedic singers and actors Peter Halley, Shelley Neville and John Williams. They offer a multi-media experience with special guests from around the globe and are complimented by the most incredible Chef team of Andrea Maunder and Chris Pickard. Andrea is an award-winning Chef who is well known for her restaurant Bacalao and her company, Saucy and Sweet.

This episode of Songs & Sauces, hosted by Peter Halley, Shelley Neville and John Williams, shines a light on JAZZ featuring the extraordinary talents of jazz singer Cat Bowring and accompanist Joe Tucker.

Cat Bowring is a vocal, cultural and stylistic contortionist, who leaps from one register to another with joy and sensuality. Born in St. John’s, she grew up on the tiny islands of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon where she played with many musicians from France and Newfoundland, having a go at blues, rock and traditional music. Cat was recently scouted by the Voice France and was selected to take part in the Blind Audition in Paris to represent NL and St. Pierre Miquelon in the near future. Through her career, her natural knack for improvisation led to writing, composing and arranging. She has toured extensively and recorded an album in 2010. Cat’s music ranges from Gospel to Acapella, but settles beautifully into jazz, delighting audiences with incredible songs of Aretha Franklin, Edith Piaf and other female giants. She has now added French jazz with a gypsy feel to her repertoire. From the St. John’s Folk Festival Stage to sharing stages with Women of Rock, Cat Bowring makes a memorable mark with her powerful presentation.
Since he was 13, Joe Tucker has been playing his guitar and singing lead and backup with various rock & jazz bands, choirs and musical productions. He also spends musical hours working on new material and gigging via the internet with band mates in B.C.  Some of the bands on his resume include alternative rockers Another North, alt-country rockers Youngtree and the Blooms ,rowdy grease rockers the Corroborators and the band Presto Magic which covers everything from modern indie rock to classic rhythm and blues. Primary roles in each band are lead guitar and often, backing vocals. In addition to these main gigs he plays regularly as a sit in with Mark Bragg, as a bass player with Len O'Neil and friends and as lead guitarist for "grieve a diva" (Aretha Franklin tribute) with Cat, which led to them playing with the Gypsies, or as a duo.
